Director’s Review

A busy start to the term greeted us with Chesham Fields being a hive of activity on January 2nd for pre-season football. Approximately 200 boys turned up to try-out for the sides in what was going to be a very busy football season.

The Saturday of that week then saw the early season training across the sports continue; the 1st XI hockey side had a tough but great warm-up fixture against the Old Berkhamstedians which saw the game end in a 1 – 1 draw. Around 100 pupils descended on Kitchener’s Field for pre-season rugby trial matches at U13 and U12 level, the Fives programme also managed to squeeze in some training in the short time slot with 38 U12 pupils making their way to the Castle site (before then also heading down to take part in the rugby too!). The football also continued its pre-season programme with more training matches from U14 – U18 level, while the 1st XI had their first taste of action for the season entering a Festival Tournament over at St. John’s, Leatherhead winning 1, drawing 2 and losing 1.

It is great to see not only how important these early pre-season sessions are for the boys but also just how committed and dedicated they all are in representing both their sport and school. We look forward to a very busy but also very enjoyable Lent term of sport.
