Berkhamsted School U14 A v Eton U14 A Rugby Match 15th September 2018

Berkhamsted U14 A team finally got their season underway with an away fixture at Eton College. In near perfect playing conditions the Berkhamsted U14 A team were keen to show what they had been working on in training in a match situation.

The team’s philosophy was clear for all to see throughout the match, playing with pace and confidence and already showing a great deal of team unity. The ball handling from all players was impressive, with strong ball carries from the forwards, which resulted with Adam crossing for the first try mid-way through the first half. Eton came back with force with their large forwards and strong running inside centre testing the Berkhamsted defence. Berkhasmted scored just before half time by Will after a sustained period of pressure.

In the second half the forwards showed their dominance, particularly in the scrum which allowed the half backs freedom to release the outside backs. The highlight of the game came 10 minutes before the end when Eton kicked off, which was then caught by forward, James, who quickly moved the ball wide to the dangerous Berkhamsted backs. Excellent timing of the pass released Dan who ran in to score under the post from Berkhamsted’s own 15 metre line.

Berkhamsted defence which was impressive throughout the match withstood another strong fightback from Eton in the final 5 minutes.

A solid overall performance, with all members so of the squad contributing to the result. There is plenty for the team to work on in training this week in preparation for playing away against KCS on Saturday

Thank you to all the supporters who travelled to Eton to watch the U14 A match.
