Match Report
Berkhamsted School 3rd XV vs  Harrow School Boys-U18D
On: Saturday, 07 Sep 2019
Venue: at Home

What a tremendous start to the season for this delightful group of young men. They were up against a big and physical side who brought a very large squad so they could do a great deal of rotation for the first game of the season. I was just amazed how our fitness lasted the whole game. Some lads admittedly were out on their feet at the end but this was no wonder in the manner in which they played. Looking back on it it was an extraordinary performance in so many ways. Too many to go into but it was their courage and their speed of the defensive line which was so impressive. The boys conceded mid way through the first half but just before the half time whistle blew they scored a magnificent try which was started in our 22. The ball moved through four pairs of hands before the skipper ran in brilliantly to score under the posts. What a try!!!!

The second half was evenly matched with some huge tackles hits going in and on three occasions we should have scored but silly errors cost us which will need to be looked at during the week. I put these mistakes down to a lack of fitness. When one is tired the thinking process is certainly affected. A penalty was slotted to give us the lead and the boys stuck to their task and hung on. The whistle blew and one could see the joy on their faces. They had won a hard game of rugby and this will give them a great deal of confidence. They have set their standards high and they certainly initiated their new shirts in style.

Well done to all.
