Week 9

With another good weeks training in the bank, working on individual skills and unit work, Berkhamsted U14 A team were excited about being at home for their second match this season, for what was going to be challenge. Radley came into the match unbeaten and Berkhamsted knew it was going to be a big challenge. Berkhamsted started strong, tackling the larger Radley players and showing impressive line speed in defence. Radley had several big strong ball carriers who after a period of sustained pressure managed to score from a break from their centres. Berkhamsted responded quickly, after a handling error from Radley, Toby kicked the ball ahead and won the race to the try line to score in the corner. This lifted the team and it was clear that Radley had not yet faced such strong and determined defence this season. With Matt unfortunately unable to the play due to injury, it meant a change to the back row with Orlando moving to number 8. The back row of Freddie, Alex and Orlando all performed brilliantly, making countless tackles and stopping their big ball carries.

Radley scored a good team try, showing impressive handling in difficult conditions and a second from their impressive No 8 picking up from the base of a scrum.

The Berkhamsted centres were well organised in defence and when they had the chance to attack, made inroads into the Radley defence with good running lines.

With Berkhamsted tiring after working hard in defence, Radley scored three tries in the second half to complete the win.

Although the result did not go Berkhamsted’s way, the commitment from the team was excellent, with many strong performances.

Next week the team play their final match of the season at home against Haileybury. Thank you to the supporters who braved the wet conditions to cheer the team on.
