Match Report
Berkhamsted School 3rd XV vs  Eton College
On: Saturday, 15 Sep 2018
Venue: Away

This was a tough opening game for the 3rd XV because the team lost a number of key men to the 2nd XV. Eton were a big team especially in the forwards and their three-quarter line had pace. Having said that the lads gave their all and had some good phases of play but sadly we made too many mistakes and Eton inevitably capitalised on them. Our kicking game was not up to the mark; we did not make their defenders work hard enough and we should have put points on the board when we were given two early penalties. Important decisions have to be made; a learning process for all concerned. Some players did stand out in the heat of the battle and they were Henry Andrews, Sam Lewis (both Yr12) and Ed Bryant (Yr13). They tackled with a great deal of courage and Lewis at scrum half was a constant nuisance to the opposition. He put in one lovely kick down the blindside and it was a pity that more was not made from this opportunity. They did not give up which is the crucial thing and they can look forward to the next match. They will certainly have more energy because one must remember that this was their first match and they had not done any tackling beforehand because of the hard ground. Furthermore, they were on Eton's 1st XV pitch which was a real treat but it was huge which also played a part in their tiredness. Looking forward to KCS on Saturday.
